Hi there, I'm Amy Hogan.
I would much rather visit with you over a glass of iced tea but until then I thought I would tell you a little about me. I founded Years Of Gold in the Spring of 2016 and it really is a dream realized. My husband Lucas and I live in Dallas, Texas with our black Labrador, Samson. When we aren't working you can find us restoring our mid-century home, spending time with our families (who are both local), traveling all over, and going out for good ice cream.
My parents have been married 45 years! My father, a businessman turned WWII historian/author, has always had a deep admiration for U.S. servicemen, their sacrifice and families. My mother, a decorated stay-at-home mother of three, loved genealogy. It wasn't unusual for our family vacations to consist of a visit to an old battlefield, museum or even an impromptu interview with a veteran on a trip to the beach. These experiences provided an immense respect for the past, for stories, for families and for people.
After college, I served at an inner-city nursing home on Saturday mornings where I discovered my enjoyment of the older community. This age was a sweet time for them; one marked by authenticity, remembrance, simplicity, laughter, and some tears. I found comfort in escaping to their world, their rawness, scooping up stories long forgotten, revisiting history and providing a sense of value. It was gold to me and I wanted to be able to share the experience with others, especially families.
A decade would pass before I would begin Years Of Gold but in the meantime God prepared me through work in the corporate world, developing my first business as a portrait photographer and marrying a man I had known for years. Years Of Gold provides a peek into the lives of older loved ones now + then through portraiture and voice medium. Thank you for taking the time to get to know a little about me and the journey in doing the work I love. I hope to get to visit with you or your loved one soon.
